Q. WHY A CORK RUG?
A. Cork Rugs are unique. They also protect flooring surfaces from abrasion, spills and impacts. In addition, they are anti-fatigue. They can protect and still be extremely comfortable and complementary to high end finishes.
Q. WHERE ARE CORK RUGS TYPICALLY PUT IN A HOME OR BUSINESS?
A. Edge Design Concepts custom makes Cork Rugs to many dimensions. They can be used in front of counters & sinks, at doorways, under dining, coffee or pool tables, under chairs, or In front of cashier tills just to name a few places. Basically anywhere that will enhance the décor of the space you are putting them whether it be for esthetic, comfort or protection purposes.
Q. HOW DURABLE ARE CORK RUGS?
A. Cork is naturally very abrasion resistant. Cork Rugs come with a 5 Year commercial warranty and lifetime residential warranty. This is significantly longer than the typical department store mat will last.
Q. HOW DO I MAINTAIN A CORK RUG?
A. Angle grinder….just kidding…soap and water! Cork is very low in absorption and easy to maintain with mild household cleaners. We apply a urethane surface coating that enhances the natural performance of the surface layer. Avoid using anything that is acidic, caustic or solvent based. Anything that has a caution label is not recommended for cleaning.
Q. WHAT WILL STAIN A CORK RUG?
A. Not much. Soda Pop, coffee, red wine, mustard, ketchup, olive/peanut/canola oils all stack up pretty good and wipe clean. We’ve had them in our homes for years with excellent clean-ability and color retention. A color change an be expected over time if the cork is exposed to sunlight.
Q. ARE CORK RUGS FIRE RESISTANT?
A. Absolutely. Both the backing and Cork veneer are non-flammable and will not contribute to flame spread (This is what I’d like to say…We may have to do flame spread testing on the system)
Q. WILL A CORK RUG DENT?
A. Cork has a cellular nature that features millions of microscopic air pockets. Each minute cell is 14 sided which pretty much eliminates empty spaces between the cells. Cork has “memory” that allows it to withstand the pressure of very high impacts. Essentially, it is naturally elastic and will rebound from most high impact point loads such as high heels and heavy furniture legs
Q. IS A CORK RUG A NATURAL SOURCE OF FOOD FOR MILDEW & BACTERIA TO GROW?
A. Not a chance. Cork is anti-microbial and resistant to mildew so that makes it a perfect product for allergy sufferers. In fact, a natural substance found in cork called suberin makes it insect-resistant as well. Definitely not a hangout for the critters!
Q. ARE CORK RUGS CHILD AND PET FRIENDLY?
A. Yes. The suberin substance naturally found in cork is also responsible for the moisture resistant nature of cork. This means accidental spills are easily absorbed with a sponge or paper towel.
